Fish scale pond is located in Haining City, Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province, and it is in the 1000 meters between the east and west sides of the Zhanao Tower. It is a provincial-level key cultural relics protection unit. Together with the Great Wall of China and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, it is called the three major projects in ancient China. During the reign of Wuyue King of the Five Dynasties, forensics had been recruited to build large-scale seawalls. Since then, it has been built for generations, and in the Yuan Dynasty in China, a unique method of constructing ponds—the piled stone pond method—was used. The development of the technology in the construction of the pond continued, and the successful construction of the sample pond by the Yu Xi in the Ming Dynasty was a success. Afterwards, Huang Guangsheng, an expert in water conservancy in Zhejiang Province, improved the method and built a stone scale pond. In 1718, at the beginning of the Qing Dynasty, the country decided to build a fish scale pond in Yanguan Town, Haining City.

　　The construction method of the fish scale stone pond is very special. All of them are neat rectangular strips and are in a “T” shape. They are built up from the bottom up. In order to solve the technical problems caused by the water flowing from the Qiantang River and digging ponds, the ancient Chinese cleverly used a characteristic of Chinese rice: stickiness instead of conventional adhesives. Between each stone, the most viscous glutinous rice is used for beating, filling, and then smashing with iron rakes; iron ingot locks are used at the top of stone ponds to prevent loosening; This pond, viewed from the side of the pond, is arranged like a fish scale, neat and sturdy, so it has a beautiful name: "The fish scale pond."
