桃花岛位于舟山本岛沈家门渔港的南面，面积43平方公里。其中南部的对峙山为舟山群岛的最高峰，山上有一圣岩寺，建于海拔482米处的一个天然石洞之内，至今已有400多年的历史了。相传当年安期生学道炼丹于此洞之内。“尝以醉，墨洒于山石上，遂成桃花纹”，岛名由此而来。
