第28届国际机器人设计大赛在浙江大学举办。大赛将持续两周。

　　The 28th International Design Contest Robocon kicks off at Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, on Aug 7. The event will last two weeks. 

　　中国网浪潮资讯 近日，8个国家的大学生代表相聚浙江大学参加8月7日举行的第28届国际机器人设计大赛。

CNCAO NEWS University students representing eight countries gathered at Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province on Aug 7 for the 28th International Design Contest Robocon (IDC Robocon 2017).

　　国际机器人设计大赛最早是东京工业大学和麻省理工学院机器人创意设计课程的交流赛，诞生于1990年，旨在培养和提高大学生的创造力，为这些年轻的未来工程师带来趣味性以及国际体验。

Initiated by Tokyo Institute of Technology and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1990, the educational contest aims to foster and develop university students' creativity and bring entertainment and international experience to these young future engineers.

　　今年，经过两周的准备，五十五名来自中国、美国、日本、韩国、泰国、新加坡、埃及和莫斯科大学生将参与8月18日的决赛角逐。

This year, after two weeks' preparation, 55 students from China, the United States, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Egypt and Mexico will compete in the final on Aug 18.

　　55位参赛者将随机分成12组。因此，除了设计和制作机器人，队员之间的跨文化交流与协作也是本次大赛的重要挑战之一。两周后，他们将互相分享机器人设计的想法和知识。

The 55 competitors were divided randomly into 12 teams. Coming from different cultures and working in mixed groups, the students have to overcome language and cultural differences to design and build robots. Over two weeks, they will share ideas and knowledge on robotics, as well as other academic topics.

The team in purple, which has four members from different countries, check materials provided by the organizing committee. 

　　浙江大学党委副书记朱世强教授说，让不同国家的学生有更多的跨文化交流与协作，是本次比赛的重要目的和意义之一。他认为，这样的比赛会考验选手的团队合作精神，任何一个个人都无法完成机器人的设计和制作全过程。

"Offering opportunities for students to have exchanges and cooperation is one of the major purposes of the event," said Zhu Shiqiang, deputy Party secretary of Zhejiang University. Zhu said students' team spirit is vital to this competition. "No one could complete the whole process of designing and making a robot alone," he said.

　　一位来自麻省理工的女学生称她参加这个比赛主要是为了互相交流，她说：“我希望通过这次比赛，我能够结识来自不同地域的年轻人并与他们成为朋友。”

A female student from MIT said she took part in the contest mainly for exchanges. "I hope through the event I can get to know more young people from different places and make friends with them," she said.

来自麻省理工学院的全女性代表队。这三位学生说他们很高兴在这个夏天能够在中国度过这段时间。

　The participants from MIT are all female this year. These three students say they were pleased to be having a short stay in China this summer. 

　　组委会在开幕式宣布了此次比赛的主题。每个小组最终要设计制造出两个机器人参赛，一个在陆地上开拓丝绸之路，一个则在“水面”上沿海上丝绸之路前行。

The organizing committee announced this year's competition theme at the opening ceremony. Students are expected to design robots for carrying goods along the two trading routes — the Silk Road and Maritime Silk Road — the routes of the Belt and Road Initiative.

　　浙江大学从2011年开始就积极参加国际机器人设计大赛。几年，浙江大学从机械工程、光学、控制科学与工程等不同专业挑选出学生参与比赛。大赛主席由浙江大学控制学院教授熊蓉和东京工业大学教授山北昌毅共同担任。

Zhejiang University has been an active participant in the event since 2011. This year, the university selected students from different majors such as mechanical engineering, optical science and control science for the contest. Professor Xiong Rong from the College of Control Science and Engineering co-chaired the program with Masaki Yamakita, a professor from Tokyo Institute of Technology.

　　朱教授说，浙江大学是国内机器人研究起步最早的高校之一。目前，浙江大学约有分布在十余个学院的30多个团队在从事机器人研究。浙江大学的机器人教学科研成果，与国家尤其是浙江省机器人相关技术与产业发展相互促进。

Zhu explained that Zhejiang University was one of the earliest in China focusing on research and development in robotics. There are currently more than 30 teams at the university specializing in this field. Scientific achievements from the university have boosted the development of Zhejiang's robot industry, Zhu said.
